Travelling waves of a diffusive Kermack–McKendrick epidemic model with non-local delayed transmission

چکیده
We obtain full information about the existence and non-existence of travelling wave solutions for a general class of diffusive Kermack–McKendrick SIR models with nonlocal and delayed disease transmission. We show that this information is determined by the basic reproduction number of the corresponding ordinary differential model, and the minimal wave speed is explicitly determined by the delay (such as the latent period) and non-locality in disease transmission, and the spatial movement pattern of the infected individuals. The difficulty is the lack of order-preserving property of the general system, and we obtain the threshold dynamics for spatial spread of the disease by constructing an invariant cone and applying Schauder’s fixed point theorem.

The deterministic Kermack-McKendrick model bounds the general stochastic epidemic
We prove that, for Poisson transmission and recovery processes, the classic Susceptible → Infected → Recovered (SIR) epidemic model of Kermack and McKendrick provides, for any given time t > 0, a strict lower bound on the expected number of suscpetibles and a strict upper bound on the expected number of recoveries in the general stochastic SIR epidemic. The proof is based on the recent message ...
متن کاملTraveling Wave Phenomena in a Kermack–McKendrick SIR Model
We study the existence and nonexistence of traveling waves of general diffusive KermackMcKendrick SIR models with standard incidence where the total population is not constant. The three classes, susceptible S, infected I and removed R, are all involved in the traveling wave solutions. We show that the minimum speed for the existence of traveling waves for this three-dimensional non-monotonic s...
متن کاملSome simple epidemic models.
The SARS epidemic of 2002-3 led to the study of epidemic models including management measures and other generalizations of the original 1927 epidemic model of Kermack and McKendrick. We consider some natural extensions of the Kermack-McKendrick model and show that they share the main properties of the original model.
متن کاملThe relationships between message passing, pairwise, Kermack–McKendrick and stochastic SIR epidemic models
We consider a very general stochastic model for an SIR epidemic on a network which allows an individual's infectious period, and the time it takes to contact each of its neighbours after becoming infected, to be correlated. We write down the message passing system of equations for this model and prove, for the first time, that it has a unique feasible solution. We also generalise an earlier res...
متن کاملKermack-McKendrick epidemic model revisited
This paper proposes a stochastic diffusion model for the spread of a susceptible-infective-removed Kermack–McKendric epidemic (M1) in a population which size is a martingale Nt that solves the Engelbert–Schmidt stochastic differential equation (??). The model is given by the stochastic differential equation (M2) or equivalently by the ordinary differential equation (M3) whose coefficients depen...
